Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 16, 2026

This Privacy Policy applies to the Meter Reading Log mobile app, called ZählerstandLog in German. It explains which data the app handles on your device and when data can leave your device.

“Locally” means processing and storage directly on your own device, where you use the app.

Data handled by the app on your device

Processing on your device and purposes

Meter Reading Log processes meter data, photos, text recognition, reminders, PDF evidence reports and backups locally on your device. The app has no internet permission, user account, cloud synchronization, advertising or analytics. App content is not transmitted to AppFabrik AI or to an AppFabrik AI server.

The data is used to document readings, display meter histories and corrections, schedule reminders on your device, and create PDF evidence reports and encrypted backups.

Camera, photos and text recognition

The camera opens only after a corresponding user action. Gallery content is selected through the system photo picker, and the app receives access only to the selected file. Text recognition uses an ML Kit model that runs directly on your device. The user must confirm recognized values.

After capture or selection, the app creates a JPEG evidence photo for private app storage on your device with a longest edge of no more than 1920 pixels and quality level 88. Capture and location metadata are not retained. The source file itself is not modified, but it is not archived as an unchanged original inside Meter Reading Log. A further reduced JPEG copy with a maximum dimension of 1600 pixels and quality level 82 may be created for PDFs.

The SHA-256 integrity hash refers to the evidence photo stored by the app on your device. It supports detection of later file changes directly on your device and is neither an official timestamp nor a guarantee of evidentiary value.

Device features and permissions

Depending on the features used, the app accesses the camera or photo picker. Notifications, alarms and system-start events are used only to schedule reading reminders selected by the user on your device and restore them after your device restarts.

Export, sharing and recipients

Data leaves the private app storage on your device only when the user saves a PDF evidence report or encrypted backup to a selected location, or sends it to another app or service through the system share sheet. The user chooses the destination and recipient. From that point, the privacy terms of the selected storage or communication provider also apply.

Meter Reading Log does not sell data or share app content for advertising, analytics or profiling.

Security

The app database, evidence photos and internally stored PDFs are held in private app storage on your device, protected by its operating system. Automatic Android cloud backups and device transfers are disabled for this data. Backups created manually in the app are encrypted with AES-256-GCM and a password selected by the user. The app does not permanently store that password. Exported PDFs are not encrypted by the backup password.

Retention

Your meter data remains stored locally in private app storage on your device until the user deletes it, clears the app data through device settings, or uninstalls the app. Meter Reading Log operates no server on which this app content is additionally retained.

PDFs and backups stored outside the app remain at the selected location until the user deletes them there. This also applies to files shared with other apps or people.

Deletion

Because Meter Reading Log has no account and no server-side storage, no account deletion or server-side deletion request is required.

Contact and support

When you contact us, we process your email address, message and voluntarily supplied information to handle your request. Depending on the request, the legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) or Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR; our legitimate interest is responding to your enquiry. Recipients may include the email providers used for communication. Support cases are normally deleted twelve months after closure and retained longer only for legal obligations or ongoing claims.

Visiting this website and external links

This privacy policy is hosted on GitHub Pages. When you visit it, GitHub processes technical access data, particularly your IP address, to deliver and secure the website. This also happens without a GitHub account. We provide this information page based on our legitimate interest in a secure, publicly accessible privacy policy (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

GitHub receives this data as the hosting provider. Data may also be processed outside the European Economic Area. Information about GitHub's processing, retention, international transfers and safeguards is available in the GitHub Privacy Statement.

We embed no analytics or advertising scripts and no external fonts here. This website receives no meter data, photos, PDFs or backups from the app. Opening an external link in the app loads the destination website in your browser; its privacy terms apply.

Your rights

Subject to the GDPR, you have rights including access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, portability and objection, and may lodge a complaint with a data protection authority. Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw it for the future. Requests concerning data we process may be sent to contact@appfabrik-ai.de. We cannot access app content stored exclusively on your device; you manage and delete it directly in the app.

Changes

This policy will be updated if the features or data handling of Meter Reading Log change. The last-updated date appears at the top of this page.
